So I asked for music to accompany me on this journey. Well…I have said it once before and now I’ll say it again, “Be Careful What You Wish For.”
Remember mixed tapes?
I would spend hours and hours creating the perfect mixed tape for someone; songs in the perfect order to tell the story of us, or creating the perfect segway from one song’s “extro” to the the next song’s “intro.”
I haven’t had a mixed tape made for me in a long, long time.
When heading out on this journey, my husband put a mini iPod in my car, with one playlist on it called “19 Years.” It took me from Ben Lomond, CA to Elko, Nevada. It was 9 hours long…longest mixed tape I ever heard. I wept. I listened. I sang along. I laughed. I listened. I felt something swell up from my belly, rising up out of my chest, I rolled down the window, stretched my arm out into the wind, cranked up the volume, and burst into rapturous song with all of my might! Then I laughed hysterically…and did it again.
The music has been an amazing companion. I’ve heard lyrics that have articulated exactly what I was feeling in that moment in time, heard voices so beautiful they reached right into my heart; a soothing balm, heard acoustic guitar moments that did the same, heard screaming guitar moments that made me feel 16 years old again. Made new friends, and revisited old ones.
As I left Wyoming, my friends noticed that there were no “Western Music” suggestions on my blog. Upon leaving I got a thumb drive with a playlist on it. I was told some songs would make me laugh, some would make me cry, and other things that I can’t remember now.
I was listening to the stories told by country music, laughing and crying, and stomping along, when this song came up…
“Let Your Love Flow” The Bellamy Brothers
Well, I had a flashback to being a young girl in the early 1970’s listening to this song playing out of an old, funky radio in my house on Timberlane Rd. Plaistow, New Hampshire. Tears gushed down my face.
Then I played it again and listened to the lyrics. I was blown away. I had never heard them before.
I played it again.
And again.
And again.
Give a listen…
I’m leaving my friend’s house in Michigan in just a few minutes. Yesterday he said, “Remember mixed tapes?” Then told me he made me one.
I can’t wait to hit the road.
There’s a reason for the sunshine sky
And there’s a reason why I’m feelin’ so high
Must be the season when that love light shines
All around us
So let that feelin’ grab you deep inside
And send you reelin’ where your love can’t hide
And then go stealin’ through the moonlit nights
With your lover
Just let your love flow like a mountain stream
And let your love grow with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show and you’ll know what I mean
It’s the season
Let your love fly like a bird on a wing
And let your love bind you to all living things
And let your love shine and you’ll know what I mean
That’s the reason
There’s a reason for the warm sweet nights
And there’s a reason for the candle lights
Must be the season when those love rites shine
All around us
So let that wonder take you into space
And lay you under its loving embrace
Just feel the thunder as it warms your face
You can’t hold back
Just let your love flow like a mountain stream
And let your love grow with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show and you’ll know what I mean
It’s the season
Let your love fly like a bird on a wing
And let your love bind you to all living things
And let your love shine and you’ll know what I mean
That’s the reason
Just let your love flow like a mountain stream
And let your love grow with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show and you’ll know what I mean
It’s the season
Let your love fly like a bird on a wing
And let your love bind you to all living things
And let your love shine and you’ll know what I mean
That’s the reason
You know I feel much the same about music and a well placed lyric… I know this song but as I sit here this morning… I have tears in my eyes! Can’t wait to see you!
